Q&A: Relations

Transcript

Question, "How well do different species of anthro get along?" Answer, "Not perfectly, but better than they used to." We see an ancient cave painting with primitive anthro canines in red pigment and reptilian anthros in dark gray. "Each species used to be much more separate from the others." Next, we see an old western scene, with a rattlesnake and a weasel eyeing each other suspiciously. "Even when joined under one nation, different species often treated each other with hostility and mistrust." Then we see a female dog standing on a balcony while a male cat hides behind a nearby shrub, looking up at her. "Close relationships between them were rare, though a few such cases have become well-known stories." The dog looks up into teh sky and says, "Wherefore art thou Romeow?" Finally, we see a young anthro goat and lion laughing and chasing one another. "Today, some prejudices still exist... but inter-species friendships are much more common."

Things got better when the new chameleon sheriff arrived. But that's another story…

Behind the Scenes

I am entirely too pleased with myself for that third panel! 😂 So what would her name be? Romeow and… Poochliet?

It’s not hard to imagine the existence of tribalism and conflict between anthros of different species throughout history. As I believe I mentioned before though, I try not to draw too many direct comparisons with similar conflicts in human societies. Difference in species is one thing that people can use to cause divisions, but is by no means meant to reflect any single aspect like race, ethnicity, etc. We’re all different in lots of ways. But if I lion and a goat can be friends, then so can we!
