And so… Ine stands in his swimsuit and towel in front of June's apartment. Snow can be seen on the ground around them. He explains, "No one came to let me in. I saw your light was on, so I thought--" Ine is interrupted by a sudden gust of wind that causes him to shiver and hold his towel around himself more tightly. June looks suddenly concerned and says, "Oh my gosh, you're freezing! Come inside right now!" She grabs Ine by the hand and begins to pull him inside. Ine resists, looking worried, and says, "B-b-but… visiting hours…" June continues to lead him inside sternly saying, "Shush. This is an emergency. Besides, you'll just be in the front room." We see Ine from just outside the window of June's apartment. As June's tail disappears into the hallway, Ine glances back towards the window saying, "Oh, that's… good…"

Behind the Scenes

While I’d used them in the past, this chapter I began to make must more use of double word balloons. Generally speaking, you should try to have one sentence per word balloon, with the possible exception of a couple of really short sentences. When a character says multiple distinct thoughts in the same panel, one right after the other, it is helpful to put them into separate word balloons, and then connect them. It helps to break them up visually, and also provides more flexibility in their placement. There’s also a visual language to word balloons that’s mostly subconscious. You can imply a slight pause between two different thoughts by splitting them across word balloons, and even by varying the position and distance between the two.
