Ine shrugs and says, "I wasn't outside very long. I just need someone to call Chris." June taps her chin thoughtfully and says, "Oh yeah, you're his roommate. Ine, right?" Ine smiles and points to her saying, "Yeah, good memory." June takes out her phone and taps on the screen, saying, "Well, if you're sure you're okay, I can give him a call." Meanwhile, Chris is still using the shed vac, now working on his legs. The vacuum hums loudly while his phone buzzes on the sink, unnoticed.

It’s been so long since I first started Aww, Feathers! that it can be easy to forget what the relationships are between each character. For instance, when writing this chapter I had to sit and think for a minute whether Ine and June had even been formally introduced yet! But this chapter does indeed mark the first time they’ve even spoken to each other in the comic. Still, they’re in the same apartment and same ward at Church, so it’s plausible that she would at least know his name and where he lives. (It isn’t, however, the first time they’ve been in the same scene together. That would be this page!)
Keeping relationships straight can be a challenge as your story and cast grow, but there are a number of different methods one can use to keep track. If you use a digital notebook that allows it, you can tag different notes with the names of relevant characters and later search for both tags together. You can create a sort of “mind map” that creates connections between different characters. I’ve even seen complex grids that show the feelings that different characters have towards one another all relative to each other. Whatever helps you keep your characters and the ever-expanding connections between them organized!

He should have sprung for the “whisper quiet” model.
