Well Groomed 2

Transcript

Earlier… Ine is in the steam room, wearing his swim trunks and holding a towel. A sign on the wall says, "Please, keep the steam room clean! Pick up your shed!" Ine opens the door to go outside, smiling contently and thinking to himself, "Ah… that was nice." He wraps his towel around his shoulders and walks through the snow and up the stairs towards his apartment saying, "Brrr! I hope there's some hot water left for me." His hand reaches forward and grasps the door handle, which rattles but does not open. We see a closeup of Ine's shocked expression as he says, "Oh…" We see him still holding the door handle and looking worried while thinking about his keys and phone and saying, "Feathers…"

Behind the Scenes

I made an effort to do more with the typography in this chapter. That includes using different fonts for different sounds (like Ine shivering in the second panel and the rattle sound effect in the third) as well as being more aware of how text elements fit in with the composition of each frame (note the significant change in size and position of the text in the third panel). I also employed a trick I learned not long ago when adding text to an actual object in the scene, such as the sign in the steam room for instance. Instead of using actual text, I traced over the text with my pencil tool. It makes it feel more integrated into the scene, as opposed to dialog and sound effects which are understood to be abstract and not really “there”.
