Ahhh, cleaning checks. Dontcha just love to hate ’em? I think most college students who lived in school housing are familiar with cleaning checks, but just in case you’re not, periodically (for me it was once a semester) you would have an inspection to make sure the apartment was being regularly… well, cleaned. Turns out most landlords don’t just trust newly independent college kids to have the life skills to take proper care of what is technically someone else’s living space. (Who knew? 😅) But with the threat of having to pay an additional cleaning fee if the apartment was a mess, one could motivate their tenants to keep things in at least somewhat good shape. Or failing that, get some extra money out of them in exchange for doing the work for them, which some students did deliberately choose to do since… you know, cleaning can be hard work, especially when the inspections happen RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF FINALS WEEK!! (Sorry Kraal.)
